WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT CUBA TIES

“I was fortunate enough to have been invited to participate in the first TIES Conference in 2015 and have attended all the subsequent conferences. I can honestly say that the conferences have changed my life and the lives of my colleague faculty and administrators. Most importantly, however, is the enormously positive impact it has had on our students.

In the years prior to our access to Cuba being curtailed, we were able to bring nearly 30 faculty to the Universidad de Cienfuegos to establish one-to-one relationships with their faculty. Additionally, our President, Vice President and Provost, our Director of International Studies, and Academic Deans, have been to Cuba to both participate in the TIES activities and to establish relationships with the Cienfuegos administration, resulting in an important MOU between the Universidad de Cienfuegos and SUNY Potsdam.

Due to the hard work of Dairo Moreno, the relationships resulted in a number of faculty run collaborative courses where our students in a number of academic areas, including photography, public health, sustainability, and Cuban music, participated in courses in Cienfuegos. These were life changing experiences for all involved and experiences they will never forget. All this was made possible be the opportunities afforded to those who had attended and participated in the TIES Conferences. I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically endorse Dairo Moreno and the TIES Conference. “
