ABOUT CIUM 2025

The University of Matanzas is pleased to announce the twelfth edition of the INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONVENTION “CIUM 2025”, which will take place from May 6 to 8, 2025. This event promises to be a wonderful opportunity for scientific exchange between national and international researchers, combining both face-to-face and virtual formats. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the rich culture and traditions of Matanzas, as well as the stunning natural beauty of Varadero.

The convention will be hosted at the Plaza America Convention Center in Varadero, aiming to foster collaboration among researchers, educators, and students from various countries who are dedicated to sustainable development and environmental care. Key focus areas for discussions will include business, education, physical culture, social sciences, agriculture, and technical, economic, and environmental sciences.

This edition will serve as a platform for sharing insights on science, technology, innovation, and university management, all of which are vital for achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda and enhancing higher education. The event will also promote establishing and updating cooperation among universities, social institutions, companies, and non-governmental organizations, paving the way for international academic projects, programs, and networks.

Additionally, the International Cooperation Forums and the Rectors’ Forum will be held during the convention to strengthen inter-institutional relationships and enhance collaborative links.

ORGANIZATION OF THE ACCOMPANYING PROGRAM:

In parallel with the event, the following activities will be developed:

– International Cooperation Forum

– Exhibition Fair

– Forum for executives

– Sightseeing activities

The registration fee includes access to the scientific program, abstracts, conference information, certificate of attendance, and author(s) certificate(s) in case of submission of the proceedings and in case of sending the proceedings and the book of the event with ISBN.

Works accepted for publication will be included and disseminated as part of the memories of the conference.

CIUM 2025 is an excellent opportunity to strengthen collaboration between different entities. By bringing together universities, social institutions, companies, and non-governmental associations, valuable synergies can be created that foster the development of international academic projects.

Additionally, updating these cooperations is crucial to adapt to the new needs and challenges of the global environment.

Founded in 1972, the University of Matanzas is an outstanding university that has undergone a dizzying educational development, becoming recognized as one of the five best universities in Cuba, according to the Ministry of Higher Education (MES).

Since its foundation, 57,000 Cuban and foreign professionals have graduated from this prestigious institution.

Today, the UMCC trains professionals in 46 university careers including physical culture, pedagogy, business, technical, agricultural, economic, social, and humanistic sciences through on-site, blended learning, and distance education.

The university’s structure has adapted to the conditions of the socioeconomic development of the territory and of the university itself and guarantees the fulfillment of its mission. In the final stage, an organizational structure comprising seven faculties has been established, ensuring a comprehensive and dynamic educational experience. Business Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Physical Culture Sciences, Languages, Technical Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Education; four Municipal University Centers (CUM: Cárdenas, Jovellanos, Colón and Jagüey Grande), eight Municipal University Branches (FUM), the Unit for Development and Innovation of Anticorrosives and Surfactants (UDI), three study centers devoted to advanced and sustainable research, biotechnological studies and educational studies; a Scientific Technological Park and the Indio Hatuey Experimental Station of Pastures and Forage, a science and innovation entity that was inaugurated in 1962 by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

 The Matanzas Botanical Garden is located on one of its university campuses, which is a hub for scientific research related to plant biodiversity and the incredible endemic species of the territory. 

 The faculty is composed of professors and researchers, more than 75% of whom are Ph.D.s,or M.D.s, and have a teaching category ranging from assistant to tenured. The university boasts a team of highly accomplished professors and consultants who provide top-notch undergraduate and graduate education. It’s no surprise that the university has honored several distinguished individuals with the prestigious title of Doctor Honoris Causa.

We have made registration and submission of your presentation proposal easy. Complete the registration form below and you’ll start the process.

When you begin to register be sure to have available:

  1. Copy of Your Passport
  2. Your Presentation Proposal, if applicable in Word or Adobe PDF format

All proposals can be submitted and presented in Spanish or English.
Please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words plus 3 to 5 keywords. There can only be a maximum of three authors for the proposal. Your thematic area can be related to any of the workshop themes.
The full text for publication will be submitted for blind peer review to be approved and published in the memories of the event. Text length is between 6-10 pages. References in APA 2016 (citation index). All proposals must follow this format to be included in the Academic Program.
Once you receive notification of the acceptance of your proposal, you must send to the Academic Committee your presentation in PowerPoint or equivalent.
Those presenting virtually must send a video that does not exceed 5 minutes with the main ideas of their proposal. The video will be presented by the moderator asynchronously if necessary.
In all cases, there will be interaction among participants through the congress website.
All participants will be sent the link to join the event one week before it begins.

Commission presentations should be at least 10 minutes long with a maximum of 15 minutes. Presentations done in English will not be translated. Presentation slides should be submitted in either PowerPoint or PDF format. We request you to use the provided PowerPoint template or image overlay for your presentation. Slides can be written in English, Spanish, French, or all three. Translated handouts in PDF Format are always welcomed. Click here to download a zip file of the Convention template.

Each presentation is limited to 15 minutes.

Posters should have dimensions of no more than 90 centimeters (36 inches) vertical x 60 centimeters (24 inches) horizontal.

Posters must contain: Title of the research, authors’ data (names and surnames, institutional affiliation, e-mail, country), an abstract, justification, general objective, theoretical approach, methodology, and results of the research.

Posters can be in English or Spanish. Translated handouts in PDF Format are always welcomed.

Files should be in an mp4 format no more than 15 minutes in length. They must contain: Title of the research the author’s data (names and surnames, institutional affiliation, e-mail, country). Complete audiovisual work must be submitted by the deadline for proposals.

Civitas Global Educational Services offers a travel program for all delegates from the United States looking to participate in compliance with the US Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Civitas GES has been building Cuba-US partnerships and facilitating programs for US institutions since 2014. A portion of the proceeds from the travel program will be used to provide logistical support for Cubans from other provinces to attend in-person. All US delegates will have the support of our resident coordinators through out the experience.
