We Stand Firm

Civitas GES stands firm in its commitment to building bridges between the United States and Cuba based on mutual respect and friendship. In the past five years, we have worked with universities on both sides to come together to establish complementary areas of interest, jump start collaborations and facilitate student and other scholarly mobility.

The efforts of students and educational leaders alike have had a profound impact on both campuses. They have contributed to deepening our understanding of each other’s reality, broadened our perspectives in research and innovation, increased our understanding of our societies and have brought us closer as people.

If recent rhetoric has made you hesitant about Cuba, we say now is the time to engage. Reach out to your Cuban colleagues to build those connections. Catch up with the families of the homes where you have shared. Show your patronage to the entrepreneurs who have turned their homes into welcoming bistros.

If you haven’t yet engaged with Cuba and its institutions, now is the time. Travel to the island to meet your peers and learn how to work together. Cubans have taught us that collaboration often takes patience and perseverance. The strides you make are never forgotten by your peers, especially during these times – which will pass.

We invite you to stand with us in building one people, one community so that we can continue learning from each other.

Civitas GES se mantiene firme en su compromiso de construir puentes entre los Estados Unidos y Cuba, basados en el respeto mutuo y la amistad. Durante los últimos cinco años hemos trabajado con universidades de los dos países uniendo fuerzas para establecer áreas comunes de interés, iniciar colaboraciones y facilitar la movilidad de estudiantes y otros académicos.

Los esfuerzos de los estudiantes y otros líderes en educación han causado un profundo impacto de ambos lados del estrecho. Ellos han contribuido al profundo entendimiento de la realidad del otro, han ampliado las perspectivas en investigación e innovación, han mejorado nuestro entendimiento de nuestras sociedades y nos han hecho más cercanos como personas.

Si la reciente retórica de los Estados Unidos te ha hecho dudar sobre Cuba, nosotros decimos que ahora es el tiempo para comprometerse. Acércate a tus colegas estadounidenses para construir esas conexiones. Acércate con las familias de los hogares con quienes has compartido. Si aun no te has comprometido con Cuba y sus instituciones, ahora es el momento. Viaja a la isla para encontrarte con tus colegas y aprende cómo trabajar en equipo. Los cubanos nos han enseñado que la colaboración a menudo requiere tiempo y paciencia. Los pasos que des ahora no serán nunca olvidados por tus compañeros, especialmente durante estos tiempos – los cuales pasarán pronto.

Ten invitamos a que te mantengas firme con nosotros para construir una sola gente (un solo pueblo), una sola comunidad para que podamos continuar aprendiendo unos de otros.
