Revised Travel Regulations for Travel to Cuba Released
Breaking News!
As a continuation to the President’s announcement on December 17th easing restrictions between the United States and Cuba, today the US Departments of Treasury and Commerce have released revised guidelines for travel and commerce.
As per the White House Fact sheet, all 12 existing categories of authorized travel, travel previously authorized by specific license will be authorized by general license, subject to appropriate conditions. This means that individuals who meet the conditions laid out in the regulations will not need to apply for a license to travel to Cuba.
These categories are: family visits; official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; journalistic activity; professional research and professional meetings; educational activities; religious activities; public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions; support for the Cuban people; humanitarian projects; activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes; exportation, importation, or transmission of information or information materials; and certain authorized export transactions.

With the exception of mainstream tourism which is barred by legislation (See the Helms-Burton Act), Americans now have unprecedented access to travel to Cuba.
We at Civitas GES applaud the new regulations. As a part of the first wave, we are offering access to two academic conferences which were not previously possible without specific license. Click here to learn more about them.
