The 1st International Symposium on Language, Culture and Communication (PearLanguage 2017) is a dedicated track under TIES 2017 dedicated to discuss and debate a variety of topics as they relate to the internationalization of higher education. La Universidad de Cienfuegos Department of Foreign Languages will convene this first symposium from October 24 to 27, 2017.
The event is interdisciplinary in character and papers can be presented in the modalities of presentation, poster or multimedia.
The symposium is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Dolores Corona PhD. and to the coming 200 years of the foundation of the Villa Fernandina de Jagua (Cienfuegos). The city of Cienfuegos was founded in 1819 and declared a cultural heritage of humanity in 2005.
Participants should send the application form and a copy of the paper abstract, specifying the topic in which it will be presented and a 50-word bio. Send your abstracts to Pearlanguage@CivitasGES.com.
Abstracts will be presented in Spanish and English with an extension of no more than 500 words and four or five key words. The heading should include: Title of the work, Full names of authors (up to 3 authors top), University / Centre where you are based, Affiliation and email.
Accepted papers must be written in Microsoft Office Word with a maximum of 10 pages without appendices and bibliography. The size of the sheet will be 2,5 cm paper letter; wrap the text, the text should be in Arial 12 . The photos, graphs and tables will be included in the attachments. The bibliographic standard will be APA 6th Edition.

Dr. Dolores “Loly” Corona
Dr. Dolores Corona dedicated more than four decades to teaching and research in Cuba and neighboring Latin American countries. Dr. Corona’s beginnings in the teaching of languages date back to November of 1966, when she was still a student at the University of Havana. “Loly”, as she was known by all, was part of the project ¨Universidad Para Todos¨, which took the teaching of English to all parts of the island through video lessons. She obtained the category of titular professor of the Central Institute of Pedagogical Sciences. Loly was co-author of the language series called ¨At Your Pace¨, which focused on personalized learning based on the cognitive needs of students. This series was used for many years in all universities under the Cuba Ministry of Higher Education. Until 2007, she worked as an advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education on pedagogical approaches to language acquisition. Loly was the driving force behind the transformations that take place in language teaching in Cuba today.
