The XII International Meeting of “The Presence of Paulo Freire: A Space to Reflect and Grow” is an original workshop dedicated to the legacy and philosophy of the late great Brazilian educator Paulo Freire.
Every other year, the University of Cienfuegos Faculty of Education in cooperation with the Cuban Association of Pedagogists (APC) convene this meeting to explore the teachings of Freire and discuss issues of Popular Education. The event is a cultural phenomenon in Cuba and educators from all over the Americas attend. This event will be held in conjunction with the VI Workshop Festival ProCreArte 2022, the V Student Forum, IV International Workshop on Inclusive Education and the III International Workshop on Patrimony, Identity and Culture of Peace.
This year’s main theme is Experiences and challenges in educational practices in times of COVID-19.
In addition, Civitas GES has arranged opportunities to meet and collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators from the University of Cienfuegos before the conference begins on May 1. After the conference, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback, provide insight with administrators and faculty as you further develop your professional or academic goals consistent with the full-time schedule as required by OFAC.
The Presence of Paulo Freire’s central theme focuses on best practices that promote the application of Popular Education among its advocates in various contexts.
Established academics, early career-career scholars, and educators of all levels (K – Postgraduate) are encouraged to participate. The scientific committee is accepting proposals until April 10, 2022.

This meeting is open to both English and Spanish speakers. The University of Cienfuegos will have interpreters available for those with a limited knowledge of Spanish.
The Organizing Committee invites scholars and students to submit proposals in the form of posters, round table discussions, audiovisual and creative art pieces (e.g., visual, performance) by April 10, 2022.

Posters and Audiovisual Presentations: Applicants who wish to submit a poster session or audiovisual piece must submit two summaries of the work they would like to present: the first is a 100-word summary and the second up to five letter-sized pages. Both should be written in Veranda 10 font, 1.5 spacing and 1″ (2.5 cm) margins all around. The proposal should include:
• Title in English and Spanish
• Authors
• Scientific Category (if applicable)
• Key Words in English and Spanish
• Introduction
• Development
• Conclusions
• Bibliography

Art Piece: Applicants who would like to engage in the discussion with an art piece in honor of Paulo Freire must submit their work in a digital format (photo or video) with a technical description of the artistic creation. Paulo Freire or his educational practices should be the inspiration of the artwork and reflect and evaluate the impacts they have had. If your art piece is a performance, please also include the length (mm:ss) of the presentation.
Presentations for 4th International Workshop on Inclusive Education: Applicants who would like to submit for the 4th International Workshop on Inclusive Education should have their projects and research topics relate to ideas that influence Cuba and other countries in the development of Inclusive Educational practices. Priority will be given to works that focus on Inclusive Education with community involvement, based on creativity, equality, and communication. We will be looking at policies and practices of Inclusive Education as it relates to Popular Education and the evaluation of the impact it has had.
