The Faculty of Physical Culture of the University of Cienfuegos, the Cienfuegos Veterans’ Softball League, and Civitas GES invite you to pack your glove, bat and cleats to play the 2nd Annual Cuba TIES Classic. A friendly softball game which has become a major highlight of Cuba TIES will take place on Monday, October 21. Participants of Cuba TIES are encouraged to play in a friendly softball game along with players from the league. It is your opportunity to participate in our shared national past time on Cuban soil. Men and women of all ages are welcome to play.
Players will be randomly divided made up of Cuban and international players. This year’s Cuba TIES Classic will be a 6-inning game, followed by a celebration of newfound friendships.
The Cienfuegos Veterans’ League began in 2008 as a community project to promote mens’ health and wellness. The Faculty of Physical Culture and INDER (National Institute for Sports and Recreation) collaborate to support the league. In the years since, the league has spread through out the province. The players consist of men over 45 years of age and hail from all parts of the community including retired Cuban League players.
Games are held each Sunday morning and results are logged throughout the season and are often officiated by Cuban Major League officials. Winners go on to play in tournaments against other provinces.
