The Faculty of Physical Culture of the University of Cienfuegos, the Cienfuegos Community Project, Softball Quality-of-Life, and Civitas GES invite you to pack your glove, bat, and cleats to play in the 5th Annual Cuba TIES Classic. This friendly softball game is a major highlight of Cuba TIES. The game is open to all conference delegates of all ages. This year’s Cuba TIES Classic will be a 5-inning game, where you will play with players from the Softball Quality-of-Life league. After the game, we’ll have a celebration of newfound friendships and share in the traditional communal dish, a caldosa.

The Softball Quality-of-Life league is a community project to promote men’s health and foster community building that started in 2008. Players must be at least 50 years of age to play in the weekly round robin tournament each week. The league today consists of over 80 players on 3 teams that play each Sunday morning. The players hail from all parts of the community including retired Cuban Major League players.

The Faculty of Physical Culture and INDER (National Institute for Sports and Recreation) collaborate to support the league. Weekly results are logged throughout the season and is officiated by Cuban Major League officials. Civitas GES also reports on the games each week, you can find them here. 

Prior to the Classic, we have an opportunity to sit and exchange with some of Cuba’s “Jugadores de la Gloria”, retired competitors of Cuba’s Sports Hall of Fame. These elite athletes medaled in international competitions like the Olympics, the Panamerican Games, the World Cup, and more.
