The Center for Studies on Local Development and Business Management (CEDLE) of the Faculty of Economic Sciences invites you to participate in the IV International Workshop on Business Management and Local Development. The motto for this year is: Business management with a transforming vision towards economic, social and environmental sustainability. The workshop falls within the framework of the II International Convention of the University of Cienfuegos.
The themes are related to lines of research of this house of higher studies, highlighting a long tradition of work in the area of knowledge of Local Development, in close ties with the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC).
Knowledge management and innovation for local development.
- Systematize the knowledge created in the university, territorial entities and from other localities in the solution of scientific, technical, training, technology transfer problems and extension of academic work in the field of local socio-economic development.
- Establish working connections between researchers, institutions and local socio-economic development actors that strengthen collaboration and the implementation of territorial development policies.
- Socialize results and impacts that allow reflection and scientific debate in knowledge of local development and the territory.

This year, each workshop will offer a pre-conference course either online or in-person. Delegates are free to choose any pre-conference course from any of the workshops of the Scientific Convention.
Online pre-conference courses will be held on the Eventos UCf platform and be held the week of October 16, 2023. The online pre-conference course will cost $20 USD.
In-person pre-conference courses will be held on the campus of La Universidad de Cienfuegos on October 25, 2023. Pre-conference courses will cost $30 USD. Online courses are available to in-person delegates at no cost.
Pre-conference courses will be available beginning September 10. Delegates can register independently on the platform with their personal e-mail address.
The journal, “Universidad y Sociedad” (RUS), started in 2008 in its electronic form with the aim of promoting the exchange in areas of social, humanistic, economic, technical and others sciences with an interdisciplinary character and it is integrated nationally and internationally.
The Journal dedicates at least eighty percent (80%) of each edition to the publication of original articles; and the rest to issues related to the dissemination of science and innovation. Journal articles are indexed and can be found on Scopus.

As a delegate, you will fly into Cuba then travel three hours to the City of Cienfuegos, declared a UNESCO World Heritage City in 2005. Also, known as the Pearl of the South, Cienfuegos sits on the Caribbean coast and will be your backdrop for the week when you participate in Cuba TIES. Cuba invests 17% of its GDP in education. Needless to say, it considers education a precious resource and protects it as such. Just stepping foot on the campus of a Cuban University as an international visitor is an exclusive privilege. As an international delegate of the Cienfeugos Scientific Conference, you get the exclusive opportunity to visit the campus and interact with Cuban faculty, staff, administrators, and students.
Cuba TIES brings together educational leadership, researchers, and even diplomats to share experiences strengthening bonds and partnerships. Many US-Cuba partnerships are built and grown here. Pack your cleats, a cap, and glove so you can play in the annual Cuba TIES Classic. This friendly softball game brings convention delegates to play with member of the Cienfuegos community. It is your opportunity to participate in our shared national past time on Cuban soil. Men and women of all ages are welcome to play. The Classic is organized by UCf Faculty of Physical Culture, The National Institute of Sports and Recreation (INDER), and Civitas GES. The Classic is played with members of the league Proyecto Softbol Calidad de Vida (Project Softball Quality-of-Life).
Experience your week while living with a host family in their private residence. Your hosts will prepare breakfast for you each morning. Living in a home as a guest of the family will anchor you within the community.
The lessons you learn will extend far beyond the conference room. Our cultural exchanges will plug you into the community. You’ll learn from NGO’s trying to make a difference in daily life. Our full time schedule of activities are designed to make you feel like you’ve lived 6 months in 6 days.
CUBA TIES STUDENT FORUM
The Cuba TIES Student Forum is an immersive study abroad and conference experience that runs concurrently with Cuba TIES that is open to undergraduate and graduate students. All proposals can be submitted and presented in Spanish or in English. Please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words plus 5 keywords. Your thematic area can be related to any of the workshops of the 2nd Cienfuegos International Scientific Convention. Plenary lecture proposals should be submitted as soon as possible. They will be evaluated by the scientific committee on a rolling basis. Proposals must be sent in digital format to CubaPrograms@CivitasGES.com. The first page of the abstract should include: Title of the paper, Authors’ data: Names and surnames, affiliation(s), (when different, indicate with consecutive numerical superscripts), address, country of origin, and e-mail.
