Founded in 1994 at La Universidad de Cienfuegos “Carlos Rafael Rodriguez”, The Studies Center for Energy and the Environment (CEEMA) is dedicated to research, development and innovation at the postgraduate level. Its aim is to improve energy, environmental and productive performance in the manufacturing and services sectors through the introduction of cleaner production strategies with a focus on:

  • Increasing energy efficiency
  • Increasing the use of renewable energy sources
  • Reducing the consumption of water and raw materials
  • Reducing emissions of all types

CEEMA serves in the training of professionals in different disciplines throughout Cuban Higher Education.

CEEMA has played a long standing national leadership role on issues of energy efficiency and has received national recognition for the implementation of “cleaner productions” (“PML”) as an environmental management approach. It has a structure in place for relevant projects meeting demands at the national, provincial and local level.

CEEMA’s doctoral and two master degree programs are nationally accredited. It has received international recognition through publications in premier magazines and participation in international networks.
