The Workshop of Strategic Alliances for the Internationalization of Higher Education (Cuba TIES) features international education within a Cuban context. Delegates of universities from around the country and institutions from around the world come together to share knowledge, research, and best practices on internationalization of higher education.
Cuba TIES welcomes administrators, researchers, professors, specialists and students from colleges, universities, related organizations, companies and other scientific institutions each year on the last week of October.
Forged from a collaboration between the University of Cienfuegos and Civitas GES in 2014, Cuba TIES is the leading conference in Cuba dedicated to building partnerships in international education. Cuba TIES has been the launching point for dozens of collaborative programs including study abroad, joint research, publications, visiting professorships and professional development.
Cuba TIES is more than a conference. Cuba TIES is an immersive experience where you are a part of the community of Cienfuegos for the duration. Delegates participate in various events within the city giving you the opportunity to engage with the community at large. Each year we develop new opportunities for engagement, giving you an opportunity to connect deeper with the community with each visit.
Don’t forget to pack your cleats and glove to be a part of the Cuba TIES Classic. This event is a collaboration with Softball Quality-of-Life, a community project that focuses on health and well-being for adults through competitive softball.
You will want to be sure to also visit our exhibit hall so you can connect with other Cuban institutions and community organizations. This can also be an additional opportunity for you to showcase your institution or organization for our Cuban delegates.
Cuba TIES received early endorsements from governmental and NGO’s for its innovation in rebuilding relations. In 2016, Cuba TIES received recognition from NAFSA as part of its Cuba Engagement Initiative. Cuba TIES has also received endorsements from The World Council of Academics and University Researchers (COMAU) and The National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions of Mexico (ANUIES).
Every other year, Cuba TIES is held under the umbrella of the International Scientific Convention of the University of Cienfuegos. Delegates of Cuba TIES are also encouraged to participate in any of the other 25 workshops of the Scientific Convention.
