Business Process Analysis

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Business Process Analysis course introduces students to the fundamentals of business process management and its role in driving efficient and innovative organizations. The course emphasizes the use of technology as an integral part of business process optimization. To this end, each student or group has to evaluate an organization and its data for efficiency issues and apply process improvement methods and tools to identify and present a challenge. Students or groups use their individual cases to examine business process mapping, workflow, change initiatives, process improvements with particular emphasis on effective change initiatives, and adoption of IT solutions that solve specific business needs. Students conclude this course by providing a single document that they develop from the commencement of the course to complete their business objectives.

COURSE OUTCOMES

  1. Develop new or improved innovative business processes from gap analysis through process design in support of a company’s strategic objectives in a socially responsible manner.
  2. Articulate the impact of proposed changes to all major stakeholders and levels of the organization.
  3. Identify the steps required to manage change in a practical and achievable fashion.
  4. Integrate appropriate information and other technologies, both existing and emerging, in developing business processes and business models.
  5. Deliver a project in a timely manner using project management tools and techniques.

ABOUT THE COURSE LEADER

Dr. Seon Levius

Dr. Seon A. Levius is an Assistant Professor of Technology in the SUNY Potsdam Department of Business Administration. He has recently been awarded the Thomas L. and Jane D. Russell Distance Education Faculty Excellence Award for his pedagogy using inquiry-based learning. He has also been recently appointed SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador because of his teaching excellence.  Dr. Levius teaches in the Master of Science in management program—the first fully online degree program at SUNY Potsdam. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Walden University in Minneapolis and a Master of Science degree in information systems management from the University of Liverpool. Levius also completed Harvard Business School Executive Education programs in digital transformation, and attended the University of Guyana, where he studied public management. Before joining SUNY Potsdam, Levius led the information and communication technology portfolios for two Caribbean intergovernmental and multilateral agencies based in Barbados. His teaching draws from sharing this eclectic knowledge and life experiences to inspire lifelong curiosity.

Katia-Rivera-Alonso
Dr. C Katia Rivero Alonso is Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences for the University of Cienfuegos Cuba, with more than 15 years of experience in Higher Education. She has recently completed an exchange in Germany where she completed the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies with DAAD. She is a 2020 recipient “With Special Distinction” of the National Award of the Cuban Academy of Sciences from the Cuba Ministry of Higher Education. She has participated in various national and international scientific events and has published articles resulting from his research in indexed journals. Her teaching is based on sharing this knowledge and practical experiences to train competent professionals capable of transforming realities. Dr. Rivero Alonso graduated with a Doctorate in Educational Sciences from the University of Havana, Cuba, a Master’s in Management from the University of Cienfuegos Cuba, and an Engineer Industrial at the University of Cienfuegos, Cuba.
